IMA Condemns Support for Quackery : Warns of Legal Consequences

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) strongly condemns the shocking and irresponsible stance of Telangana Congress leader Prof. Kodandaram, who is openly supporting fake doctors (quacks) and advocating for their recognition. If any harm befalls the public due to these unqualified practitioners, Kodandaram will be held personally responsible, declared IMA Telangana President Dr. Duvvuru Dwarakanadha Reddy, Secretary Dr. V. Ashok, and Action Committee Chairman Dr. Ashok Reddy.

It is deeply disturbing that Kodandaram will go down in history as the only leader in the world to fight for the right of quacks to endanger public health.

These so-called medical practitioners lack formal education, have no proper training, and do not even know the names of medicines, let alone correct dosages. Their crude and dangerous medical practices, reminiscent of medieval barbarism, pose a serious threat to the lives of innocent villagers. Yet, Kodandaram is urging the Telangana government to issue official certification for such quacks a move that is not just irrational but inhumane.

Political Opportunism at the Cost of Public Health

Political leaders should work towards the welfare of the people, not engage in reckless activism that puts lives at risk. By demanding legitimacy for unqualified medical practitioners, Kodandaram is betraying the people of Telangana. If he truly cares about public health, he should advocate for the recruitment of 10,000 qualified doctors who graduate every year and ensure one trained doctor for every four to five villages.

IMA demands that Kodandaram immediately withdraw his statements and stop promoting illegal and unscientific medical practices. Instead, the government should take strict legal action against quackery to protect public health.
